Not the result we were hoping for at all. With Man U having hauled themselves up we really needed a win from this match but a late goal by Tim Cahill from a set piece. It looked as though we had the game until this very late stage but there you go - that's football.
Liverpool's team sheet for the match looked good with what looked like an attacking line-up. Steven Gerrard was central midfield and there were two up front. On paper this looked good. On paper. But Liverpool didn't take the game to Everton enough. We did create chances but failed to take them when we should. A bit of credit to Everton where it's due because they did have a good work rate in this match. Liverpool really need to start stamping their authority on these games particularly when when have gone ahead.
With the FA cup tie coming up on Sunday it will be interesting to see what happens with a quick repeat - hopefully Liverpool have got the measure of Everton and will play much more decisively. Bring it on!
