Despite Rafa Benitez promising that he would be the first Liverpool manager to see Liverpool lift silver at the new Wembley Stadium Arsenal moved to the quarter finals of the League Cup with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium tonight.Nicklas Bendtner sent Arsenal through as Arsene Wenger's youngters showed they had strength in reserve. RAFA had challenged the Liverpool players to prove the statistics wrong at Arsenal tonight but it was not to be. Arsenal still have not lost to Liverpool at home since february 2000.
Fran Merida shot in off the post from the edge of the area as Arsenal opened the scoring.
Emiliano Insua then equalised with a wonderful 25-yard dipping strike but Nicklas Bendtner nit the roof of the net to restore Arsenal's lead.
Alberto Aquilani had his first match for Liverpool but despite the long wait to see the £20m player who came on as a late substitute he could not save the match for Liverpool but he did display some nice touches.
Liverpool struggled for an equaliser with Andriy Voronin putting a shot wide and Ryan Babel missing a Dirk Kuyt cross but Arsenal held fast.
